Affiliations & Cooperation

The CCHR is informally affiliated to and cooperates with a number of national, regional and international organizations. These relationships strengthen our work to promote and protect human rights in Cambodia.

National

The CCHR coordinates the Alliance for Freedom of Expression in Cambodia (AFEC), working with other NGOs to promote and protect freedom of expression, information and assembly.

Ou Virak, President of the CCHR, is the Vice-Chairman of the Cambodian NGO Working Group for establishing a National Human Rights Commission and ASEAN Human Rights Body. He represents this NGO Working Group to the Cambodian Joint Government-NGO Working Group for establishing a National Human Rights Commission and ASEAN Human Rights Body.

We are informally affiliated to the LICAHDO, CLEC and CCHR (LCC) working Group for Human Rights, which works mainly on resolving land conflicts.

Regional

The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) works to promote and protect human rights in Asia. We have worked with the AHRC on joint campaigns, reports and press releases.

Ou Virak, the CCHR's President, represents the Cambodian NGO Working Group for establishing a National Human Rights Commission and ASEAN Human Rights Body to the Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism.

The Institute for Strategic and Development Studies (ISDS) is a Philippines-based policy, research and advocacy institution. We have worked with ISDS on providinghuman rights training.

The Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA) is the only regional organization with the specific mandate of promoting and protecting press freedom in Southeast Asia. The CCHR works with SEAPA on campaigns and joint press releases relating to press freedom. SEAPA joined the CCHR-coordinated Alliance for Freedom of Expression in Cambodia (AFEC) to submit a report on freedom of expression to the Universal periodic Review of Cambodia's Human Rights record.

International

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights for all.They have provided advice to the CCHR on engaging with international mechanisms and we share data on human rights violations.

ARTICLE 19 is a human rights organization with a specific mandate and focus on the defence and promotion of freedom of expression and freedom of information worldwide. ARTICLE 19 has contributed legal analysis to our reporting on freedom of expression and we have worked with them to issue joint press releases.

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) seeks to promote mutual understanding, deeper engagement and continuing collaboration among the people of Asia and Europe through greater intellectual, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions. We assist ASEF in arranging Cambodia-based meetings and lectures.

The vision of the CCPR Centre is the full respect worldwide of all the human rights proclaimed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), ratified by 164 States. The CCPR Centre joined the CCHR-coordinated Alliance for Freedom of Expression in Cambodia (AFEC) to submit a report on freedom of expression to the Universal periodic Review of Cambodia's Human Rights record.

Freedom House is a clear voice for democracy and freedom around the world. Through a vast array of international programs and publications, Freedom House is working to advance the remarkable worldwide expansion of political and economic freedom. We have worked with them to provide emergency grants to Human Rights defenders under threat.

Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) is an international non-governmental organization that supports human rights learning; the training of activists and professionals; the development of educational materials and programming; and community-building through on-line technologies. HREA have provided us with training and educational materials.

The Human Rights House Network (HRHN) works to protect, strengthen and support human rights organizations locally, and unite them in an international network of Human Rights Houses. HRHN has provided advice to the CCHR on engaging with international mechanisms.

Human Rights Information and Documentation Systems International (HURIDOCS) is a global capacity-building network of organizations that use documentation techniques, monitoring methods, information management systems and technologies in the defence of human rights and the prevention of abuses. They created the database we use for our Database Project, and provide free and wide ranging technical support.

Human Rights Watch is one of the world's leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights. They have provided advice to the CCHR on engaging with international mechanisms and we share data on human rights violations.

The International Federation of Human Rights (Federation internationale des droits de l'homme) (FIDH) works to contribute to the respect of all the rights defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. FIDH joined the CCHR-coordinated Alliance for Freedom of Expression in Cambodia (AFEC) to submit a report on freedom of expression to the Universal periodic Review of Cambodia's Human Rights record.

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) is an intergovernmental organization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide. Its objective is to strengthen democratic institutions and processes. We have participated in IDEA's discussion forums and conferences.

The One World Foundation works to encourage young people from disadvantaged and under-represented communities to engage with international human rights and development. The CCHR hosts their 'One World Young Leaders', providing them with the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of and experience working in human rights.

UPR Info works to raise awareness and provide capacity-building tools to the different actors of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process, such as United Nations Member States, NGOs, National Human Rights Institutions and civil society in general. UPR Info advised the CCHR on engaging with the UPR process.
