DID YOU KNOW? Every four and a half years, UN member States undergo a Universal Periodic Review (UPR). During this process, they declare what actions they have taken to improve their domestic human rights situation, and receive recommendations addressing existing shortcomings from other States. The 4th UPR of Cambodia will take place in May 2024. Civil society organizations play a key role in this process by shedding light on ongoing concerns, engaging with foreign diplomats to promote their own recommendations to the State under review, and assessing whether previous UPR commitments have been implemented.
